What Are Business Days
Business days — also called working days — are the days of the week when most businesses operate and official transactions can occur. In most of the world, business days are Monday through Friday, excluding public holidays.
Calendar days, by contrast, include every day of the week: Monday through Sunday, including holidays. A calendar day count is simply the total number of days between two dates.
When to Use Each Type
Understanding when to use business days versus calendar days is crucial for contracts, project planning, and legal deadlines.
Contract Deadlines
A contract that says 'payment due within 15 business days' means weekends don't count.

How Business Days Are Calculated

- Start from the start date and move forward one day at a time
- Check if the current day is a weekend — if so, skip it
- Check if the current day is a public holiday — if so, skip it
- Count the remaining days as business days
- Stop when you reach the end date

How Public Holidays Affect Business Days
Public holidays can reduce the number of business days in a date range. The current Desmarto calculator excludes weekends only; it does not automatically deduct public holidays.
If your deadline rules exclude public holidays, verify the relevant country and organization calendar separately and adjust the weekend-only result before relying on it.
