Formula

Net Hours = Σ(Clock Out − Clock In) − Σ(Unpaid Break Duration)

Total working hours are calculated by summing all time entries (clock out minus clock in) and then subtracting unpaid break durations. Paid breaks remain included in net hours.

Example: Standard Work Day with Lunch Break

Morning entry09:00 → 12:00 (3h)
Lunch break (unpaid)12:00, 60m
Afternoon entry13:00 → 17:00 (4h)
Result7h net (8h gross − 1h unpaid break)

Tips

  • Use separate entries for each work period (e.g., morning and afternoon).
  • Mark breaks as 'Paid' if they should count toward working hours.
  • Entries are checked for overlap — ensure times don't conflict.
  • Results update automatically as you type.
  • Export to CSV for payroll or record-keeping.
  • Share the page link to save or send your time card.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if my entries overlap?

The calculator detects overlapping time entries and shows a validation error. Each entry should have a unique time range without conflict.

How are paid vs unpaid breaks handled?

Paid breaks count toward your working hours and are included in net hours. Unpaid breaks are subtracted from gross hours to calculate net hours.

Can I use AM/PM format?

Yes. The parser accepts both 12-hour (AM/PM) and 24-hour formats. The format toggle only controls how results are displayed.

What duration formats are accepted for breaks?

You can enter break duration in various formats: '30m', '0.5h', '30 minutes', or '0:30'. The parser automatically normalizes the input.

Can I share my time card?

Yes. Click 'Share Link' to copy a URL that includes all your entries and breaks. Anyone with the link will see the same calculation.
